Aggies-Cowboys game
could be in prime time
COLLEGE STATION — The Aggies home game against Oklahoma State Sept. 24 is possibly in line for a prime-time broadcast.
ABC will show the game either at 2:30 or 7 p.m. A decision won't be made until next Monday.
The Aggies-Cowboys game is the only Big 12 contest under consideration for the prime time slot. The main competition is West Virginia/Louisiana State.
The network also will decide early next week what to do about the Aggie-Arkansas game at Cowboys Stadium, Oct. 1. It, too, could be in line for a prestigious spot. And ABC also could decide to wait a week to make the decision, pending the outcome of the games, Sept. 24. While the Aggies take on top-10 team Oklahoma State, Arkansas plays Alabama.
A&M's game this Saturday against Idaho will be broadcast on Fox Sports Southwest pay per view. It'll cost $39.95
Tweaking the lineup
There could be a new starter at inside linebacker for Saturday's game. Charlie Thomas has replaced Jonathan Stewart at inside linebacker. Stewart now is Garrick Williams' backup. The lineup is being changed, in part, because the Aggies allowed SMU running back Zach Line to gain 108 yards in the first half of A&M's 46-14 win over the Mustangs.
Rush outside linebacker Damontre Moore also will be in line for playing time after serving a one-game suspension relating to his arrest in June for misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Moore still is backing up Caleb Russell.
"Damontre is going through a maturation process," said defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter. "He stubbed his toe and had to pay a penalty for it. He's a guy with really, really big upside, but he's a guy that has to be more consistent."
Moore was Von Miller's primary backup last season.
Inside linebacker Kyle Mangan also has moved to fullback. He's listed as a co-starter with Tommy Dorman. Mangan, a junior, actually came to the program as a fullback. Blockers are needed due to the injury of tight end/fullback/H-back Michael Lamothe, who suffered a concussion in the season opener. Coach Mike Sherman said Lamothe will be evaluated later in the week.
Some local Idaho flavor
The Vandals have seven Texans on the roster, including two from the Austin area.
Redshirt freshman Karel Kearney is the starting nose guard. He hails from Pflugerville Connally High School.
The second-team free safety is Bradley Njoku from Leander.
Njoku returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown last Saturday.
