Practice No. 11: Texas A&M worked out in full pads Wednesday morning for 2 hours, 25 minutes on the Coolidge grass practice fields.
"I don't think we practiced very well this morning defensively," A&M head coach Mike Sherman said. "We have to be better than they were this morning. They've been pretty stout all [training camp] and have been pretty good, but today was not that day."
Several players sat out with various injuries. Wednesday was the ninth of 12 straight scheduled days of workouts before the team has a day off. The absence of 15 players creates fatigue for the others.
"That's part of the snowball effect that happens when guys are taking a bunch of reps and start being a little bit sloppy in their technique," Sherman said.
Junior outside linebacker Sean Porter joined the list of players not taking part in team drills. Porter has a back injury.

Dropoff at No. 3 running back: Senior Cyrus Gray and junior Christine Michael combined for 336 carries last year, but no other running back on this year's roster has had a carry in a game. Redshirt freshman Mister Jones and sophomore Ben Malena each have had several outstanding runs in practice, but both appear far from being a complete back.
"We've coughed it up too many times with everybody except [Gray and Michael]," Sherman said. "The guy who doesn't fumble will be the favorite. I don't care how good a runner you are, if you put the ball on the ground you can't play."

Battle for No. 1 tailback spot: Gray, who ended last season with seven straight 100-yard rushing games, continues to be held out of team drills with a hamstring injury, while Michael is having a strong camp. Michael broke his leg last season and missed the last six games.
"I can't wait to see [Gray] and [Michael] back and battling it out because it's going to be an interesting race to see who's going to be the starter," A&M running backs coach Randy Jordan said.
